Prisons Dept to allow CNY visits on Feb 12 and 13

KUALA LUMPUR: Prisoners' families will be allowed to visit them on Feb 12 and 12 in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

The Prisons Department said this also covers moral rehabilitation centres, special rehabilitation centres, special detention centres and the Henry Gurney School, with priority for visits given to Chinese inmates only.

It said in a statement on Monday (Feb 5) that aside from face-to-face visits on those two days, families may also meet inmates online via video call over the Feb 14-16 period.

“Visitors who choose the face-to-face method must comply with the conditions set.

"Visiting hours will be between 8.15am and 4.15pm. Visitors must perform an RT-PCR or ARTK-Ag (swab/saliva) test valid for three days after sample collection and be asymptomatic.

"They must also bring a visit card as well as an identification card," it said.

Visitors may not bring any food and drink and are not encouraged to give any money to the inmates as all basic facilities are provided by the department, it added.

It said appointments must be made for the visits through the i-Visit system at www.prison.gov.my, or by phone calls, email or letters to the respective institutions.

"The institutions will set the date and session of the meeting after the appointment is made and visitors need to contact them to get more information," it said. – Bernama
