Two men under probe for bribing JPJ officer

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order to remand two suspects for seven days for allegedly offering and giving a bribe of RM500 to a Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officer.

Magistrate Fairuz Syuhada signed the order following an application by MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya.

The duo, an ice factory supervisor and his agent, would be detained at the MACC lock-up till Feb 6 to assist in the probe.

The suspects, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s, were detained when they were called in for questioning at the MACC office in Port Dickson on Tuesday.

The duo had allegedly given the bribe as an inducement to prevent the officer from acting against them for several traffic violations under the Road Transport Act.

The department, during a roadblock inspection in Lukut in Port Dickson, found that a lorry belonging to the duo did not have a valid road tax.

The driver had also failed to provide a valid driving licence and a goods driving licence.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009.
