KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department has seized approximately 300 motorcycles for extreme modifications and brake removal.
The department’s senior enforcement director, Datuk Muhammad Kifli Hassan, at a press conference at the department’s Kuala Lumpur headquarters, said that the department had increased its efforts this year.
“The department views the trend of extreme modifications of motorcycles seriously.
“Some of the examples of extreme modifications included the removal of the Engine Control Unit, swapping to bicycle tyres and the removal of brakes,” he said on Wednesday (June 10).
He added that he was also concerned with the age group of those who were found with these modified motorcycles.
“There are those as young as 12 years old that are still in school, but most that we have found were in the 18 to 30 years age group,” he said.
Modifications have also been found to cost as low as RM5,000 to over RM9,000, he added.
He also said that the department had seized 38,959 motorcycles between 2021 and 2026 for various offences.
"As of this year till May 2026, a total of 252,118 notices have been issued against motorcycle riders for various offences,” he said.
