PUTRAJAYA: The Kuala Lumpur High Court on Wednesday (June 10) upheld a Tribunal for Anti-Sexual Harassment (TAGS) award in favour of a woman whose ex-boyfriend shared her intimate photos online without her consent.
In a statement, the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry said the court upheld the award dated Aug 1, 2024, which ordered the respondent to issue a written apology to the complainant, attend counselling sessions, and pay her RM60,000 in damages.
"This decision by the Kuala Lumpur High Court reinforces TAGS' role as a fast, simple and effective justice mechanism in providing remedies to victims of sexual harassment, including digital sexual harassment," the statement read.
The ministry said TAGS, established on March 8, 2024, provides an alternative channel to civil courts for hearing and deciding sexual harassment complaints.
"The establishment of this tribunal marks an important step in the nation's efforts to strengthen protection for victims of sexual harassment and to create a safer and more dignified society," the statement added.
