PETALING JAYA: A fire has broken out at the paediatric ward of Jengka Hospital, according to a viral video shared by former deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said.
In the video posted around 7.40pm on Wednesday (Sept 9), the former Kuala Krau MP said firefighters were working tirelessly to put out the blaze.
"I have just received information that a fire has broken out in the children’s ward at Jengka Hospital.
"All necessary assistance and support for those affected will be arranged immediately.
"May everything be made easier for everyone involved," he said in the post on his Facebook page.
The 18-second clip appears to show medical staff, patients and visitors roaming around in a crowded indoor area, with smoke seen in certain areas of the hospital.
Meanwhile, Maran OCPD Supt Wong Kim Wai said police were alerted to the incident at about 7pm.
Bernama reported him saying that part of the ceiling in the paediatric and women's wards at Jengka Hospital caught fire on Wednesday, but all 17 individuals in the wards escaped unhurt.
He said the fire involved the ceiling space of both wards and was fully extinguished by the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department in about 20 minutes.
"Six boys, five girls, and six women who were in the wards managed to escape safely, and none sustained injuries," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Supt Wong said initial information from the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department indicated that the fire originated above the ceiling of the two wards, causing about 10% damage to the wiring and ceiling structure.
He said the cause of the fire and the estimated losses were still under investigation.
