New Year Countdown in Penang set to be a blast

GEORGE TOWN: New Year countdown celebrations are set to be a blast in Penang here with large crowds gathering at various places for parties, concerts and firework shows.

The crowd, such as friends and families, as well as colleagues who are enjoying the holidays, had started gathering for dinner in the evening before waiting for the countdown at midnight.

Among hotspots of celebration in Penang are Karpal Singh Drive, Gurney Paragon Mall, Straits Quay, Fort Cornwallis, The Top and Juru Auto City.

Meanwhile, traffic was reported to be heavy on major roads in the city due to heavy traffic.

The state has announced that it would not be hosting its New Year countdown celebration this year but they would be organised by different private initiatives instead.
