Home Ministry approves construction of RM150mil police HQ in Kalabakan

KALABAKAN: The Home Ministry has approved the construction of a RM150mil district police headquarters to enhance the security here, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic).

The Home Minister said they needed the cooperation of the Kalabakan district office for land and site-related issues, development permits and other matters to facilitate its construction.

"We can complete (the headquarters) with adequate personnel, then (staff) quarters to ensure that police personnel can truly serve the villagers," he said when officiating the Kalabakan National Registration Department (NRD) office and the department's 'Menyemai Kasih Rakyat' (Mekar) programme here on Friday (Dec 15).

Saifuddin said the construction of the district headquarters was crucial as Kalabakan will be the country's strategic getaway with the opening of the Serudong Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security Complex.

On the Kalabakan NRD office which began operating on Dec 1, he said it has received and processed 150 applications, an average of 10 cases per day.

Meanwhile, NRD director-general Zamrin Misman said as of Nov 30, the department carried out 1,791 Mekar programmes to facilitate the registration process for the people.

"For Sabah, as of Nov 30, a total of 125 Mekar programmes were implemented involving 2,785 applications and 6,278 advisory services were provided. We carried out two programmes in Kalabakan this year," he added. – Bernama
