Two centralised workers' quarters get the nod in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: The construction of two centralised living quarters (CLQs) for foreign workers has been approved, the Penang state assembly heard on Monday (Nov 27).

State Local Government Committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye said the construction was approved by the state planning committee.

"It will be able to house an estimated 32,680 foreign workers, who will be placed in these complexes," said H'ng at the state assembly on Monday.

"A 27-storey building will be built by a private company, Chong Company Sdn Bhd at Tingkat Teluk Kumbar, with shoplots and a recreational area," he added.

He said another company Zantalite Enterprise (M) Sdn Bhd will rezone two lots at Mukim 9, Teluk Kumbar, to a general business zone and build a 30-floor hostel.

H'ng was responding to Shukor Zakariah (PN-Pulau Betong) who asked the state about the status of the construction of hostels for foreign workers in Teluk Kumbar.
