Boy, 2, feared drowned after falling into drain in Melaka

MELAKA: A two-year-old boy is feared to have drowned after falling into a drain before being swept away by strong currents during a downpour at Taman Goodwood, Bukit Palah, here.

The child's mother Nor Amiza Che Kar, 28, said her son Muhammad Danish Mohd Faizal, went missing while playing with his brother at 3.25pm on Saturday (Nov 25).

She said her son was last seen at the back of her "nasi kerabu" stall together with his four-year-old brother.

"Both my sons were playing near a 1.2m drain at the back of my stall before Muhammad Danish went missing," said a distraught Nor Azima.

She said it was raining heavily when she told both of her sons not to go near the drain and was attending to a customer when both of them went missing from her sight.

Nor Azima said her husband Mohd Faizal Maarop, 38, lodged a police report at 3.40pm after Muhammad Danish was unable to be located while his slippers were found near the drain.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said a search and rescue operation involving Melaka Fire and Rescue Department has been launched to find the missing child.
