Penang assembly reconvenes for first time after state elections

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state assembly reconvened here at the state legislative assembly building in Light Street for its first meeting this year since the state elections.

The first meeting of the First Session of the 15th Penang Legislative Assembly proceeded smoothly on Friday (Nov 17).

The first day started at about 9.50am with state Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang entering the hall.

At the first sitting, Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak entered the hall with his wife Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Nor.

In his speech, Ahmad Fuzi said that maintaining financial integrity was critical to the administration and financial management in the state.

"I want to congratulate the state on successfully maintaining its financial management with integrity upon receiving a Clean Certificate from the Auditor General for the 2022 Financial Statements," he said at the state legislative assembly.

He then said the seating arrangements of most of the members of the House have changed with there being new faces.

"This changing landscape is the result of the recent state elections.

"This time DAP, PKR, Barisan Nasional and Parti Amanah Negara have made up the state government for the first time under the umbrella of the Unity Government.

After Ahmad Fuzi's speech, Law ended the session for the day saying they would reconvene at 9.30am on Monday (Nov 20).

Earlier, a 102-men honour guard was mounted for Ahmad Fuzi followed by the singing of the National and state anthems.

All assemblymen were present.
