Trader fined RM1,500 for owning 14 fake firearms illegally


MELAKA: A hobbyist product trader was fined RM1,500 by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court for owning 41 fake firearms illegally.

Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman pronounced the sentence on Hamdihafizi Ab Karim, 33, and imposed six months' jail on him should he fail to pay the fine.

Hamdihafizi pleaded guilty to owning 41 fake firearms, including pistols, rifles and shotguns, along with bows and ball bearings illegally at a premises at Lot 86, Jebat Street, Klebang at 10pm Aug 14 under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960.

Hamdihafizi, who was unrepresented, sought the minimum fine during his appeal as he was only working as a hobbyist product trader while Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Asnini Kamarudin sought a sentence commensurate with the charges to act as a lesson for the accused. - Bernama
