Pakatan wants MP censured for ‘DAP kafir’ remarks

A PAKATAN Harapan lawmaker wants Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (pic) (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for his “kafir” (infidel) remarks on Oct 17.

Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) said he filed the motion on Wednesday.

“The motion is to refer YB Pengkalan Chepa to the Committee for his “DAP kafir” (the DAP are infidels) remarks,” he told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

“I have filed the motion because this remark is an insult to the House,” he said.

“As MPs, we must put an end to such remarks – even more so since they were directed at me as a Muslim MP,” he added.

He then asked Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Noh, who was presiding, about the status of the motion.

Ahmad Marzuk then responded by saying that he was citing the Pahang Mufti before his microphone was turned off.

Syahredzan also asked for guidance from Ramli on the Zionist remarks uttered by Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) towards Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) in an exchange during Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s (PN-Pagoh) debate of Budget 2024.

Ramli said that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul is still deliberating on the motion and the issue of Awang’s remarks.

A shouting match erupted on Tuesday after Ahmad Marzuk questioned Howard Lee (PH-Ipoh Timor) over the latter’s video on the translation of a verse of the Quran, which attracted controversy last month.

It was during the chaos that Ahmad Marzuk was accused of uttering the DAP kafir remark.
