IGP: Beware of Palestine aid-related scams

PETALING JAYA: Donors intending to send aid to Palestine have been cautioned against falling for scams.

“Those who wish to send any form of aid are advised to check the credibility of the representatives that are handling them, as well as to take steps to avoid being scam victims,” said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

“The Commercial Crimes Investigations Department will increase surveillance as well as take action on those found to be taking advantage of the situation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Razarudin also said people should refrain from going to conflict areas.

“The police will monitor this closely and mobilise relevant elements, such as the Special Branch, to ensure no Malaysian will be involved to the point of risking their personal safety,” he said.

In KUALA LUMPUR, hundreds of people took part in a protest in support of the Palestinians outside Masjid Negara.

Among those present were former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairman.

Muhyiddin said Malaysians of all religious faiths should demonstrate their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
