GEORGE TOWN: A 17-gun salute echoed across the grounds of Dewan Seri Pinang, marking the start of the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the 85th birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, on Saturday (July 11).
The Penang Governor arrived at Dewan Sri Pinang at about 8.45am accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah.
The ceremony began with the national and state anthems.
Ramli then inspected the guard of honour mounted by the Second Battalion of the Malay Regiment which comprises three officers and 103 soldiers led by Lieutenant Muhammad Azrul Hisham Nazri while Warrant Officer Yusri A.B. Wahab served as the parade sergeant major (SMR), simultaneously with 17-gun-salute.

The ceremony began at about 9.30am.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil will head the list of 1,221 recipients of state honours, awards and medals, where he will receive the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (DPPN), which carries the title Datuk Seri.
A total of 101 individuals will receive state honours, while 1,120 others will receive awards and medals of merit.
A total of 230 recipients will receive their state awards, stars and medals of honour today.
The four-day ceremony will resume on Monday to Wednesday next week.
