Kuala Kangsar MP declared support for Anwar on own accord, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: The decision of Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was of his own accord, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the Cabinet was informed this morning (Oct 13) that Anwar did not speak or meet with Iskandar.

"The MP also did not hold any discussion with the Prime Minister about his (change of) support for the unity government without him (Iskandar) exiting his party (Bersatu).

"This was his own personal decision," Zahid said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby here on Friday (Oct 13).

Zahid said this in response to allegations that Iskandar was pressured to support the government.

In a statement earlier, Perikatan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin claimed that Iskandar had been intimidated and threatened into supporting Anwar.
