ABU DHABI: Suitable locations will be identified for foreign investors interested in the renewable energy sector, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this followed Malaysia becoming an attraction for foreign investors looking to invest in the sector.
“We will identify several areas, 10 to 12 locations. They (investors) will choose. Some will be in Pahang,” he said at the end of his two-day working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He said Malaysia is currently leading in attracting investment in the renewable energy sector and will continue to do so if the investment commitment from the UAE becomes a reality.
Anwar said the government also plans to expand data centres currently located in Johor and Selangor to nearby states.
“During our meetings with investors, they requested that we expedite and streamline the process of doing business.
“This is what we need to work on because there are other countries that can offer better incentives than us.
“If we make it easier for them, foreign investments will increase and the country’s income will rise,” he added.
On his meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Anwar said the meeting lasted longer than planned.
“During the meeting, I emphasised economic, trade and investment issues.
“We also discussed diplomatic matters and regional issues in the Arab and Asian worlds,” he said. — Bernama
