Girl goes missing at Tuaran river


KOTA KINABALU: Authorities have mounted a search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 12-year-old girl who went missing and is feared drowned at a river in Kampung Serusop, Tuaran on Wednesday (Aug 30).

The Fire and Rescue Department said they received a report at 2.33pm about Syaza Wardiah Muesa, who went missing while swimming at the river.

"Firefighters, police, Civil Defence Force and civilians are conducting the joint SAR operation," said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, a 77-year-old woman who was reported missing on Monday (Aug 28) in the same district has been found safe on Wednesday (Aug 30).

Jen Buyung was found three kilometres from her house at Kampung Suromboton, Tenghilan at 2.55pm.

She was reported missing at 5.05pm on Tuesday (Aug 29) and a team from the Tuaran fire station and a K9 unit were dispatched to the village.

The police and Civil Defence Force also assisted the SAR operation before the victim was found on the second day of the search.

"She was given first aid by medical responders on site and sent to the Tenghilan clinic for a further check-up.

"The operation ended at 3.50pm," the spokesman added.
