Selangor Ruler: People’s basic needs must be met effectively

KLANG: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has directed the state government to look into the flood problem that often occurs and causes much inconvenience to the people.

The Ruler said short-, medium-, and long-term plans have to be immediately implemented.

“What is the point of taking pride in economic achievements and status as a rich state with the highest gross domestic product in Malaysia when the basic needs of the people cannot be met effectively?” said the Ruler.

Sultan Sharafuddin also advised the state’s elected representatives to always practise integrity and serve the people well.

The Ruler said the newly formed state government has to immediately overcome all shortcomings affecting the lives of Selangor residents, especially in regard to infrastructure and development.

Selangor is often hit by flash floods when there is a downpour.

Flooding in 2021 also resulted in the loss of lives as well as property and belongings in several areas, such as Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam.

“It is my priority that the government solves every problem related to the people’s daily lives,’’ Sultan Sharafuddin said in his royal address after the swearing-in of Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and his 10-member executive council line-up.

The Ruler asked if there was awareness that in recent times Selangor had fallen behind in terms of investment and export value of goods in comparison to Penang, Johor and even Sarawak.

Sultan Sharafuddin added the state must realise this reality and immediate action must be initiated to prevent it from continuing to tarnish Selangor’s reputation as a main contributor to the national economy.
