Campaigning starts to become scrappy


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 47 investigation papers have been opened and two arrests have been made between July 27 and Aug 5 over offences committed during the state elections.

Police corporate communications head Asst Comm A. Skandaguru said during that period, 1,772 ceramah were held with permits while six were without permit.

“In Kedah, 426 ceramah were held with permits followed by Terengganu (359), Selangor (352), Kelantan (277), Negri Sembilan (210) and Penang (148),” he said in a statement yesterday.

“Four ceramah were held without a permit in Terengganu while one ceramah each was held without a permit in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.”

He said a total of 891 police reports were lodged in the six states with 335 of them in Selangor followed by Kedah (226), Terengganu (150), Kelantan (92), Negri Sembilan (75) and Penang (13).

On Friday, six investigation papers were opened for committing mischief and causing damage, theft, defamation and mischief by fire, said ACP Skandaguru.
