Up to Khairy to join Bersatu, says Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: It is up to former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin to decide whether to join Bersatu, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

The Perikatan Nasional secretary-general said the door is still open to the former minister if he wants to join Bersatu and be involved in the state elections.

"If he (Khairy) wants to play tug-of-war, it is fine but party president (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) says it once, then that's enough, " said Hamzah.

Sinar Harian reported that Hamzah said this after the launch of the Perikatan election machinery and Himpunan Pakat Pertahan programme in Kota Baru on Saturday (June 24).

Muhyiddin had publicly offered Khairy a seat on the party’s supreme council on May 17, saying that he would be a great asset to the party.

He said that he hoped that Khairy would join Perikatan and added that the latter is “smart enough to make a decision”.

This comes after Khairy joined a meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired with top economic experts in Malaysia last Friday to discuss the direction of the country’s economy.

Since January, Khairy is still not a part of any political party after Umno sacked him.

Khairy however said that he needs more time to consider the offer.
