THE Kannadasan Foundation of Malaysia will host a festival in conjunction with the late Tamil poet’s 98th birthday celebrations, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The foundation has been hosting the Kannadasan Vizha for over 30 years and this year’s event will be held on June 24 at the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.

The event is held annually to celebrate the life and work of the Tamil poet, also known as Kaviyarasu (poet king), who contributed much to the modern Tamil literary scene.

MIC deputy president and Tapah MP Datuk Seri M. Saravanan is expected to attend the event as a special guest.

Stage, television and radio presenter Gnanasekaran Karuppiah, radio personality and Mullai Ther series creator Sarathi Krishnan, writer K. Subramaniam, song writer Raguraman, and 40-year veteran of the local newspaper industry and literary scene and technology educator Rajammal Tharman will be honoured for their services to the arts, literature and the Tamil language.

The above articles are compiled from the vernacular newspapers (Bahasa Malaysia, Chinese and Tamil dailies). As such, stories are grouped according to the respective language/medium. Where a paragraph begins with a >, it denotes a separate news item.
