Boulder lands on excavator in Simpang Pulai quarry, kills driver


IPOH: A 48-year-old excavator operator was killed after a 10-tonne boulder fell onto his vehicle at a quarry in Simpang Pulai, here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the victim, from Gerik, was trapped in the cab of the excavator during the incident on Saturday (may 27) between 12pm and 1pm.

"We received information about the incident at about 4pm.

"The victim was doing some clearing works before the boulder fell onto the excavator from a height of about 25m," he said in a statement.

"The victim was taken out from the vehicle by rescue personnel at about 6.45pm, whereby medical personnel confirmed his death.

ACP Yahaya said the incident has been classified as sudden death.

"The deceased's body has been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's forensics department for post mortem," he added.
