Melaka fisherman jailed 24 months for threatening mum with knife

MELAKA: A 41-year-old fisherman who threatened his mother with a knife has been sentenced to 24 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here.

Wira Md Aris pleaded guilty to the charge after it was read to him before Magistrate Mazana Sinin on Tuesday (May 23).

The accused was charged with committing the offence at around 5pm on Sept 22 in the kitchen of a house in Bertam Malim here.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, he had threatened his mother Ara Sembok, 66, with a knife with the intention of getting money from her.

Counsel Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek, who represented Wira, appealed for a lighter sentence as his client had three children to provide for.
