Investigation into assault of army trainee started before news went viral, say PD cops

PORT DICKSON: Police had been investigating the assault of a trainee at an army training school here even before news of the incident went viral.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said although details of the alleged incident were uploaded on Facebook on Friday (May 12), police had started the probe almost three weeks ago.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident took place at an army training camp here on April 17.

"We received a report of the alleged assault on April 22.

"Investigations are ongoing and once completed, the investigation paper will be forwarded to the state Deputy Public Prosecutor's office," he said in a statement on Friday.

The case is being probed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Supt Aidi appealed to the public not to share the posts as it could jeopardise their investigation.

He added that doing so was also an offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
