Thunderstorm leads to flash floods in Johor Baru


Havoc: Kampung Melayu Majidee hit by a flash flood following the thunderstorm in Johor Baru.

JOHOR BARU: A sudden one-hour thunderstorm brought heavy rain that led to a flash flood in Kampung Melayu Majidee here.

A Johor Civil Defence Force spokesman said they received a distress call at 2.48pm yesterday.

“A team was deployed to the scene to assist residents there.

“Some 14 houses were badly damaged with their roofs blown off due to strong winds,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman added that three cars were also damaged by fallen trees.

The affected areas were Jalan Rahmat, Jalan Budiman and Jalan Sehat.

“A flash flood also occurred at Permatang Kempas but the water level has since receded,” the spokesman added.
