ALOR SETAR: The Federal Government has allocated RM1.6bil for the development of Kedah, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said compared to previous years, the Federal Government has decided to give higher allocation for the state government for this year.
"Kedah has become a focus for the Federal Government in terms of developing and improving the state's economy.
"The allocation does not include other aid such as assistance for schools and clinics and also several water supply projects at certain districts," he said during his speech at the Malaysia Madani Open House event at Raia Hotel here on Saturday (April 29).

He said recently when he went to China for a work visit, there was a proposal to increase the investment at Kulim Hi-Tech Park.
He promised the people of Kedah that he would make sure that he would give full cooperation to expedite the process of foreign investment in the industrial zone in Kedah.
"With the help from the state government and local authorities (PBT), it will propel better growth for Kedah," he said.
The Tambun MP said he was confident that the Madani concept brought forward by the Federal Government would be able to excel if the government practices good governance and rejects corrupt practices and power abuse.
"We will make sure that all of the government machinery will be used to protect the welfare of the people and the relation between various races in the country," he added.
Kedah Ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Almarhum Sultan Badlishah also graced the event together with Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.
Among other guests present during the event are deputy prime ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifudin Nasution Ismail and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
Some 10,000 people attended the open house organised by the Federal Government.
The event begin at 10am and ended at about 2pm.
