STREET vendors who planned to do business during the upcoming Chitra Pournami festival in Teluk Intan, Perak, held a protest against the stall rental hike, Makkal Osai reported.
More than two dozen of them gathered at a temple in the town earlier this week. They held the contractor accountable.
The traders said Sungkai assemblyman and Perak state executive councillor A. Sivanesan had announced that the stall rental would be capped at RM2,200, and the news was widely reported in the Tamil dailies.
However, the contractor had attempted to charge between RM4,200 and RM8,400, they claimed. They have called on Sivanesan to intervene.
> Malaysia Nanban reported that an eight-year-old girl in India was killed after her handphone exploded.
Adithya Sree Ashok Kumar suffered severe injuries to her face; the bones in her palm were broken, and a few of her fingers were severed.
Initial investigations said the explosion could have been caused by the battery overheating as Adithya had been on the phone watching videos for a long time.
The daily reported that the three-year-old phone had its battery replaced last year.
