Johari says will work to strengthen Umno unity as new party vice-president

PETALING JAYA: Newly-appointed Umno vice president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani says he will look to strengthen bonds between Umno members and work together as one big family to earn the trust of the people.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday (March 20), Johari gave thanks to all Umno members who voted for him.

He said he was thanking them for entrusting him with the mandate to become one of three Umno vice presidents in the party.

"My highest thanks to everyone who voted for me, especially members of my election campaign who worked tooth and nail to earn me this victory.

"I will do my best to lead Umno side by side with the President, other two Vice Presidents and Supreme Council members to earn the trust of the people moving forward," he said.

Upon the conclusion of the party polls held on Saturday (March 18), Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin were officially confirmed as the party's vice-presidents for the term 2023-2026.

On Sunday (March 19), Umno election committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said Wan Rosdy, the Pahang Menteri Besar, garnered the highest number of votes with 126, followed by Mohamed Khaled, who is also Higher Education Minister (115 votes) and Johari (109 votes).
