> “Flood-proof” furniture such as aluminium wardrobes are growing in popularity among people in flood-prone Kuala Terengganu, reported Harian Metro.
Tradesman Sazali Ahmad, 56, from Kampung Paloh, said he previously only made aluminium doors and window frames, but over the past year, many customers had come to order aluminium cupboards as well.
His skill in making aluminium furniture has come in handy, as people are seeking ways to protect their home furniture from being damaged during floods.
Sazali said it all began when someone asked him to make an aluminium cupboard as his house was often hit by floods.
“I didn’t decline his request, but I asked for time to complete the job. And since then, many customers had placed their orders, especially those whose houses are often flooded.”
Aluminium cupboards, he said, were the right choice for use in homes that are often hit by floods as they are easy to clean, do not rust and are not easily damaged.
Furthermore, they are light, he said.
Sazali, who has 25 years of experience in making aluminium doors and window frames, would charge between RM800 and RM2,800 for each aluminium cupboard.
He takes up to two weeks to complete an order.
