Floods: Number of evacuees in Johor drops to 2,564 as of 8pm


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor dropped from 2,729 at 4pm to 2,564 at 8pm on Sunday (Jan 29).

The state Disaster Management Committee said one temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened in Batu Pahat, bringing the total number of PPS in operation to 31 in six districts still affected by floods.

"The highest number of victims are from Mersing, with 839 people, followed by Batu Pahat (774), Kluang (422), Kota Tinggi (422), Segamat (92), and Tangkak (15).

"The newly opened PPS is at SJKC Chong Hwa in Batu Pahat, however, the number of victims affected is still being finalised," it said in a statement, here.

It added that the PPS with the highest number of evacuees was at Politeknik Mersing, with 234 victims from Kampung Che Wook and Kampung Sri Pantai.

The water level in Sungai Endau, Mersing, had exceeded the danger level by 2.79m from the normal level of 2.20m.

Two roads were closed to all vehicles, located in Jalan Tanah Abang in Mersing due to flood and Jalan Sungai Tiram in Kulai due to a landslide.
