Ops Selamat: 1,591 road accidents recorded on eighth day


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,591 accidents were recorded on the eighth day of Ops Selamat in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Mat Kasim Karim said 1,891 vehicles were involved in the accidents recorded on Jan 25.

"Cars made up 70.91% of the vehicles involved in accidents with 1,341 reported, followed by 241 four-wheel drive vehicles and 209 motorcycles.

"A total of 44 lorries were also involved in those accidents followed by 41 vans, 11 buses and one ambulance," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 26).

On Wednesday (Jan 25), it was reported that a total of 1,649 accidents occurred on Tuesday (Jan 24), the seventh day of Ops Selamat.

Over 2,000 vehicles were involved in the accidents.

On Tuesday, the department released an infographic showing that 1,312 cases were recorded on Monday (Jan 23), involving 1,603 vehicles.
