Twelve nabbed for playing with illegal fireworks in JB


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 12 men for playing with fireworks without a licence during Chinese New Year near the city centre.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the men, all locals, were arrested in three different locations between 1am and 3.10am on Sunday (Jan 22).

“We have also confiscated eight units of fireworks containing 49 shots, six units of fireworks with 168 shots, five units of ‘happy boom’ fireworks, and one unit of fireworks with 25 shots.

“All those arrested are aged between 19 and 45,” he said in a statement here.

The case is being investigated under Section 3(5) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for playing with fireworks, which provides for a jail sentence of not more than one month, or a fine of up to RM100, or both, if found guilty.
