Cop faces disciplinary action after allowing friend to hold submachine gun

JOHOR BARU: A policeman is in trouble after allowing his friend to hold a submachine gun while taking a picture together in front of a police station here.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said that police detected a photo on Twitter uploaded by @evvok, which shows a man wearing a police uniform while smoking a cigarette and a member of the public holding a firearm.

“Investigation found the man wearing the uniform is stationed at the Johor Jaya police station while the other person holding the HK-MP5 is his friend.

“The picture was taken by their mutual friend in the wee hours of Wednesday (Jan 11) at 2.43am in front of the Johor Jaya police station.

“The policeman was on guard duty at the time when the picture was taken. All three of them are 25 years old and the purpose of the picture is meant for their memories but it has since been uploaded on social media,” he said here on Thursday (Jan 12).

Supt Mohd Sohaimi said the policeman’s actions of allowing a civilian to hold a firearm while on duty was an offence and he has committed a disciplinary violation.

He added that further investigation was carried out by the Seri Alam police district headquarters integrity and compliance standards unit, and action against the personnel can be taken under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
