PETALING JAYA: A grieving mother, who lost her husband and daughter in the Batang Kali landslide, is still waiting for news from the rescuers about her young son.

According to U Chin Ong, the Parent-Teacher Association chairman of SJK(C) Mun Choong, the mother did not join her two children Eng Huai Yi, 12, and Eng Shao Qi, 11, as well as their dad Eng Choon Wen on the camping trip.

Choon Wen operated the canteen at the primary school in Kuala Lumpur, where his two children also studied.

“Everyone is praying for (the discovery).

“We hope he will be found,” U said when contacted yesterday.

He added that the bodies of the woman’s husband and their daughter had been found.

Also killed was Choon Wen’s canteen assistant, Nurul Azwani Kamarulzaman, 31.

Efforts to locate Shao Qi, the last missing victim since the disaster happened in the wee hours of Dec 16, are continuing.

Of the 92 people at the campsite of the Father’s Organic Farm at the time, 61 survived while 30 had been confirmed dead.

Yesterday, well wishes and prayers poured in over social media for Shao Qi.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Facebook users left comments and prayers for the boy, including heart-wrenching calls for him to “show up” soon.

“Little boy, let’s not hide anymore. Follow the light, don’t be afraid!” wrote one Facebook user.

“Let them find you soon; your family is waiting for you,” said another.

One other user wrote: “Go home, son. It’s dark out there and let’s not stay out too long.”

On Thursday, authorities confirmed that the boy was the last one still missing in the landslide after the total number of victims was revised from 94 to 92.

U had said the school planned to hold a memorial service for the victims when all had been accounted for.

Six of the teachers who went on the trip perished.
