GE15: Two women pass away at polling stations in Johor


JOHOR BARU: Two female voters, including an elderly person, died while at the polling station in two separate incidents on polling day.

In a statement, the Johor Election Commission (EC) said the first victim, identified as Juhara Syed Mohamad, 57, died after casting her vote at SMK Sultan Ismail here at 9.30am on Saturday (Nov 19).

“She experienced shortness of breath before collapsing suddenly. The woman came to the polling station in an unwell condition following the observation of the EC staff, but wanted to continue voting,” said the commission.

It said that the second victim was 85-year-old Tuminah Ambiah, who died at SJKC Lit Terk in Paloh, Kluang at around 10.30am.

“She had yet to cast her vote when she suddenly collapsed. Health Ministry staff present at the scene confirmed her death after an ambulance arrived at the scene,” it added.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat confirmed the two deaths, adding that their bodies have been sent to the hospital for post-mortem.
