KUANTAN: Pakatan Harapan's Fuziah Salleh (pic) has said that she will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment after receiving a demeaning comment while campaigning in the 15th General Election (GE15).
The Kuantan parliamentary candidate said her campaign staff had lodged a police report over a sexually offensive comment while she was livestreaming on Wednesday (Nov 9).
"I don't mind if there are haters who want to say negative things but what is happening is there are people who make inappropriate comments.
"This person said 'You are old. Just stay at home and play with your man, makcik. No need to bother trying to be a minister.'
"I am okay if you don't like me. But I will not accept it if you harass me. I will not take it lightly when there are those who use such words," said Fuziah.
The incumbent Kuantan MP added that there was no reason why she should accept such behaviour when she was one of the persons who fought for the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill.
"If anyone can simply do such a thing to me, then they can do it to someone else's mother, sister and other women. I want to show that this behaviour is unacceptable in our society.
"I could have just ignored it but I want to send a message here that such a way of speaking cannot be accepted. You must not do that to anybody.
"Women out there who face harassment must also not be afraid of taking action," said Fuziah.
Pahang police chief Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said a police report had been lodged by a campaign director over a TikTok livestream watcher's comment, which was sexually harassing and insulting towards a candidate.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.
Comm Ramli also reminded all to campaign with prudence and cultivate positive values among party members.
