JOHOR BARU: Three Immigration officers have been arrested during operations against human trafficking syndicates, says its director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud. They were nabbed in a series of operations conducted by the department that targeted blacklisted immigrants who tried to re-enter the country.
“The first operation was conducted on Oct 2 at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) Sultan Abu Bakar Complex in Gelang Patah where an officer was picked up.
“The second operation was held on Oct 27 in Kota Baru, Kelantan. No officer was found involved there.
“And the third operation was at the KL International Airport in Sepang on Nov 1 where another officer was caught,” he said.
The third officer was detained for questioning on Nov 7 at the CIQ Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI).
“The officers involved are in custody and under police bail,” he added.
Speaking to reporters yesterday, Khairul Dzaimee said officers found guilty would be dismissed from the department.
“There will be no compromise on those involved with criminal activities,” he added.
He stressed that these cases merely involved a few officers and the department’s reputation was intact.
Twelve Indonesian nationals, the majority of them on a blacklist, were arrested on Nov 7 along with two Malaysian men who acted as their transporter at the CIQ BSI.
