GE15: Stable govt needed to handle challenging economic situation, says Abang Jo

KUCHING: Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes the country will be governed by a stable Federal Government after the 15th General Election (GE15).

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman said this when met by reporters at the Petra Jaya nomination centre here on Saturday (Nov 5).

“We hope that this election will allow for a more stable government to be formed on the federal level. This is because we have wasted a lot of time with uncertain politics when we should have been providing our services to the people,” he said.

Abang Johari also said that in the years 2023 and 2024, it is expected that the world will face a challenging economic situation due to recession.

This, he said, is why it is important that Malaysia establishes a strong government to face the uncertainties that the future holds for the economic world.

“We need policies that will benefit the common people and restore the country's economy if possible.

“As for GPS, we will definitely lay out policies and matters related to Sarawak and the interests of this state together with the cooperation of the Federal Government," he said.

He also hoped that the 14-day campaign period would proceed smoothly.

"I witnessed many areas where there was a one-on-one, three-corner and four-corner contest.

"This democratic process will give space to the people of Sarawak to choose candidates who will fight for and also defend our rights through the negotiation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63)," he said.
