JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional's candidate for the Iskandar Puteri constituency, Datuk Jason Teoh, says he hopes that constituents will remember the service he has rendered in the area despite not winning in 2018.
"In 2013, I had to give way to former mentri besar Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman to contest against DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang in Gelang Patah. However, since then, I have always been serving the people," the 53-year-old businessman said after filing his nomination papers for Iskandar Puteri here.
Gelang Patah was renamed as Iskandar Puteri after GE13.
He added that he would be using social media to engage the many new and young voters in the constituency and would focus on improving infrastructure in his area if elected.
"Some of the places in Skudai have been abandoned for a long time," he added.
Teoh will be facing a three-cornered fight. Pakatan Harapan has fielded Johor Opposition chief and Perling assemblyman Liew Chin Tong, 45; while Jason Tan, 37, is from Perikatan Nasional.
Liew outlined three strategies, namely to develop the economy, improving public transportation and city management, especially urban planning.
"There is an urgent need to develop the economy so that Malaysians will be able to get high-paying jobs in the country instead of working in Singapore.
"It is vital to grow sectors which are technology-based so that Malaysians will be able to get higher-paying jobs here," he said, adding that this would require time to achieve.
Tan said that he was still getting his election machinery together as he was only selected as a candidate a few days ago.
"I will be going around to introduce myself to the people and to engage with them," he added.
The Iskandar Puteri parliamentary constituency is the second largest constituency in the state with 222,437 voters.
