GE15: Ex-private secretary to three Kedah MBs to contest in Langkawi seat

LANGKAWI: Former private secretary to three Kedah mentris besar Datuk Armishah Siraj has been named as Barisan Nasional's candidate for the Langkawi parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

His candidacy was announced by Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center on Tuesday (Nov 1) night.

The retired senior civil servant, in his Facebook post, has described his candidacy as a huge responsibility from the Barisan leadership and thanked them for trusting him.

"Thanks to Umno president and Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the trust that has been given to me.

"As Langkawi Umno and Barisan members, let us work together to provide the best service to the people of Langkawi," he said.

He said after more than 30 years in the civil service and about 20 years serving under three mentri besar, the issues relating to the people have been close to him.

He vowed to give his best to ensure that Umno will win the Langkawi parliamentary seat during GE15.

Armishah, 58, had served under Datuk Seri Syed Razak syed Zain from 1999 to 2005, and followed by Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah from 2016 to May 2018.

He also served the current Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor from May 2020 until his retirement in July 31 this year.

Armishah, who is Kampung Kuah Umno branch member, will face former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who will be competing under Pejuang-GTA in a four-cornered fight.

The other two candidates are Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah from Perikatan Nasional and Zabidi Yahya from Pakatan Harapan.
