JOHOR BARU: More than half a million ringgit has been allocated by the Johor state government to fix the damaged road at the Pangsapuri Sri Panglima Bukit Saujana, here.
Johor housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said that the repair works were expected to start on Tuesday (Nov 1) and would be completed within a week, depending on weather conditions.
"The roads involved are located along the five blocks of the Pangsapuri Sri Panglima, namely, Blok Sri Bendahara A and B, and Blok Pahlawan A, B, and C.
"Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi recently visited the place and has agreed to allocate RM600,000 to upgrade the road at the strata units," he said when contacted.
Mohd Jafni shared that the main issue at the apartment was that residents had failed to make monthly payments for maintenance.
"All public flats are managed by either the Joint Management Body (JMB) or the Management Corporation (MC), which have been elected by the residents themselves to collect maintenance charges and contributions to the sinking fund and others.
"The state government only has jurisdiction over the People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Rumah Sewa Kerajaan (RSK), where there are about 14,000 units in Johor.
"So for Pangsapuri Sri Panglima, the MC has only managed to collect between 30% and 40% of the maintenance fee, which is not enough to cover the cost to repair broken amenities, which include the lift and sewage treatment plant (STP)," he explained.
The monthly payment for maintenance was about RM30 to RM40 for each unit, and there were 1,623 units at the Pangsapuri Sri Panglima, he added.
Meanwhile, Pangsapuri Sri Panglima MC manager Norkarmila Mohd Asat said that she was thankful that the state government came forward to solve the residents' woes.
"It’s good that the government intervened and help the residents here, and at the same time, we hope that the residents are aware of their responsibility.
"Our main concern right now is the STP, but Datuk Onn Hafiz and Datuk Mohd Jafni have given their word to look into the matter, so we will wait for the progress of this issue," she said.
