1,800 cops to monitor 'hot seats' in Melaka for GE15, says state police chief

MELAKA: Melaka police have identified a number of parliamentary constituencies deemed as "hot seats" in the state for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

State top cop Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah said 70% of its personnel will be mobilised for the election as well as monitoring these hot seats.

"There will be 1,800 personnel on duty throughout the GE15 period.

"We have 2,572 police personnel comprising various ranks in the state," he said after a walkabout and launching of a crime prevention campaign at Little India here in conjunction with Deepavali on Thursday night (Oct 20).

DCP Zainol said police will also focus on these hot seats during the GE15.

However, he declined to identify the hot seats that had been identified.

"Let us (police) manage these hot seats and ensure the election process goes on smoothly as well as ensuring the safety of voters," he said, adding that police are also prepared to brace for floods in the state with 250 personnel tasked with contingency plans.

Based on the previous elections, Hang Tuah Jaya, Alor Gajah and Tangga Batu parliamentary constituencies were deemed as hot seats.
