KLANG: A good number of Amanah incumbent elected representatives will be dropped to make way for new faces, reveals the party’s communications director Khalid Samad.
“There have been requests from the public as well as party members that we field new and young candidates, and we are very responsive to that suggestion,’’ he said when contacted.
The incumbent Shah Alam MP said Amanah will have more seats to contest in GE15, adding that the seats it had given up to Bersatu in the 2018 general election “will all be returning to us.”
“Now that Bersatu is no longer with us (Pakatan Harapan), we expect to get our seats back,’’ said Khalid.
In the last general election in Selangor, Amanah contested five parliamentary seats – Kota Raja, Shah Alam, Sepang, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Langat – and won all.
Asked if speculation that incumbent Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin would be dropped was true, Khalid said the party’s candidate list had yet to be finalised.
Hanipa, who served as deputy law minister under Pakatan Harapan’s rule, has had health issues and collapsed in 2016 and 2018.
In a statement, Hanipa brushed off the speculation, saying he had continued to work hard in Parliament without any problems, adding that he had also visited his constituency almost every week.
