Superstar’s daughter survives on soup kitchen

HONG Kong superstar Jackie Chan has been accused of neglecting his family after his estranged daughter was seen queuing for food at a soup kitchen in Canada, China Press reported.

Photos of his lovechild Etta Ng, dressed in a hoodie and sweatpants, surfaced online last Sunday, the same day Chan was seen promoting his autobiography I am Jackie Chan on Weibo.

Many Internet users remarked that Etta must be going through hard times to have to rely on soup kitchens and criticised Chan for not showing any concern for her.

“Your daughter’s situation is so dire that she is now accepting food handouts on the streets and yet you choose not to show any concern for her,” someone commented.

Etta is the product of Chan’s affair with former beauty queen Elaine Ng in the late 1990s.

In 2017, she eloped with her partner and Canadian social media influencer Andi Autumn.

This was not the first time she had to resort to food banks as the married couple once discussed being homeless in Canada, blaming it on their “homophobic parents”.

Chan, 68, and Etta reportedly have a strained relationship. Apparently, she once said that she never wished to see her father.

> Malaysian singer-songwriter Jyi Sim died on Oct 4 after a four-year battle with lymphoma, Sin Chew Daily reported.

She would have marked her 33rd birthday on Nov 8.

Sim graduated with a degree in aeronautical engineering from Imperial College in the United Kingdom.

Before becoming a singer, she worked as a sound engineer before releasing her first album Perfect For You in 2019.

Jumuro Music managing director Abraham Tee said Sim had remained positive despite battling cancer.

“Jyi was a person filled with a passion for music,” he said, adding that he was struck by her humility and how she could make amazing music.

During her battle with cancer, Sim had released music with motivational lyrics including I Want To Live on with Courage, Unreasonably Missing You and Looking Up at the Stars.

Her last social media post was on Sept 10 when she shared photos of herself spending time with her family, writing that she would not be releasing any new music until she recovered.
