SARAWAK Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has contributed much to the state’s development, particularly when he served as chief minister from 1981 to 2014.Among others, he encouraged women’s participation in politics and supported the development of early childhood education, says Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The state Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister joined politics in 2001 when she was picked as a candidate for the Dalat state seat by Taib, who was the chairman of the then-state Barisan Nasional and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) at the time.
