Najib spends time in prison penning his thoughts


PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is spending most of his time behind bars penning his thoughts which he intends to share with others.

"I am using much of my time to jot down my views and pass them on to my lawyers or family which are to be shared with all,” he said.

"There may be a bit of delay but what else can I do? These (jottings) are all I am able to do," added Najib in a Facebook post on Monday (Aug 29).

He said that he is allowed to meet with his family members and lawyers at permitted visiting times.

Najib added that he would use the meetings to enquire on the latest issues, including court matters.

He said that his daughter, Nooryana Najwa - who he affectionately calls “Gina” - informed him that many had asked about his welfare and condition.

"For the time being, I am in good health and calm. Alhamdulillah," Najib added.

The former prime minister is currently serving a 12-year sentence in Kajang Prison following the Federal Court’s decision on Aug 23 to uphold his corruption conviction involving RM42mil of SRC International funds. Also upheld was a RM210mil fine against him.

Najib faces four other criminal charges related to the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.

On a separate matter, the Kuala Lumpur Royal Lake Club revoked the club's patronship conferred on Najib on June 1, 2011.

The decision was made by the club's general committee on Aug 25 which was signed by its president Manjeet Singh Dhillion.
