TAIWANESE singer Jimmy Lin says he is on the road to recovery and will return to work once he is better.

China Press reported that the 47-year-old issued a statement on his condition for the first time after the car he was driving hit a road divider and caught fire in Taiwan’s Taoyuan city on July 22.

He and his six-year-old son Jenson were pulled out by nearby workers and bystanders before the car burst into flames.

Jenson was largely fine, while Lin was warded in the intensive care unit of Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

“I have been discharged from the hospital and I’m recovering at home. I would like to thank those who saved me and Jenson as well as those who had prayed for my recovery.

“The procedures had been completed at the hospital. Now I just need more time to rest and recover,” he said.

Lin underwent two operations – one to affix a titanium rod to his arm and another for his facial fractures.

> Oriental Daily reported that the Chinese national women’s volleyball team had apologised for playing with face masks on against Iran in the preliminary round of the Asian Women’s Volleyball Cup in the Philippines on Thursday.

The team’s antics before removing the masks in the second set of the match courted controversy with many netizens saying that it would not help contain the spread of Covid-19 but would instead cause suffocation.

China beat Iran 24-26, 25-19, 25-10, 25-13.

The Chinese Volleyball Association said the team wore the masks as a precaution as there were several Covid-19 cases among the participating teams and some Chinese players had also developed symptoms.

“As we lacked the experience to face such a situation, we did not tell the players to remove their masks. After realising the issue, the team completed the match without their masks,” the association said.
