Police on standby for Najib’s day of reckoning

PETALING JAYA: It is “D-Day” for Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) as the Federal Court will hear his final appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

It is believed that the Pekan MP’s supporters will gather around the court today.

Security is expected to be tight at the Palace of Justice (POJ) in Putrajaya, as the police will make sure that the proceedings of the appeal are not marred by any untoward incident.

The police refused to reveal the strength of the security forces being deployed at the venue, but Putrajaya police chief ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the number would depend on information received and the situation would be assessed from time to time, reported Bernama.

He said police personnel have been deployed for security purposes at the POJ since the proceedings began on Aug 15.

However, from today until Friday, additional personnel will be put on duty as and when needed.

“For now, the police are on standby,” he said yesterday.

The Federal Court will continue with Najib’s appeal proceedings in his final bid to set aside his conviction and sentence on seven counts of misappropriation of SRC International’s funds.
