Trailer plunges off flyover, causing traffic congestion at Jalan Kuala Kangsar

IPOH: An empty trailer heading north on the North-South Expressway (NSE) lost control, crashed through a guard rail and plunged off a flyover near Jalan Kuala Kangsar here on Friday (Aug 19) afternoon.

Road users in the vicinity were reportedly thrown into a panic and the incident caused traffic congestion stretching from Ipoh town to Tasek.

Acting Perak police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the vehicle is believed to have experienced brake failure before crashing through a divider at KM271 of the NSE.

It then fell onto the road reserve of Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

"The incident is believed to have occurred at about 12.40pm.

"One of our expressway mobile patrol vehicles on duty spotted the incident," he said.

"The driver of the trailer, D. Kumar, 50, from Butterworth, Penang, sustained light injuries," he added.

According to a Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman quoted by Bernama, no casualties or other property damage were reported.

Photographs and video clips of the incident soon started making the rounds on social media.
