MIC gets serious about Telugu

THE Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) will introduce a Telugu chapter to be more inclusive, Malaysia Nanban reported.

MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran announced this at the Malaysia Telugu Association’s 44th annual general meeting.

The association has been a proactive champion of the community and language in the country despite being a minority even within the Indian community.

By having a Telugu section in MIC, the Indian community will be able to work together better for everyone’s benefit, said Vigneswaran.

Association president Venkat Prathap urged the Education Ministry to include Telugu language subjects in the SPM examination.

Over 5,000 students are currently attending Telugu classes at the Telugu Academy founded by the association and guided by certified teachers from India.

He said the association is willing to work with the authorities to come up with a framework for a Telugu language syllabus.
